I don't!

Call me a sceptic if you will but it is all good for his image and any celeb banging on about charities won't get my respect until they donate a huge wadge of cash themselves!

Yes and no. I do respect that he has used his status and wealth to take on one of the world's biggest problems (I mean, he could just be basking on a beach somewhere instead), but I think he is approaching the solution in a very emotional, as opposed to logical, manner. He is basically trying to solve an economics problem - I therefore think he should be reading alot about economics, or even getting an economics degree. I'm not an economics major, but I took alot of economics courses in college as part of my degree plan, and I think the answer to his quest is clear.

The trouble with charities is they raise money in order to pay bigger salaries for themselves and create a bigger ego for themselves. I live in a city where homelessness is an industry; if homelessness disappeared overnight, a groundswell of the working population would be in a panic because they'd have to find a real job. Charities aimed at poor people have never been proven to help the poor get out of poverty ... they keep the poor in poverty in perpetuity so that those working in this industry continue to hold some very good jobs.

I absolutely respect him for what he does - he's being doing it since the original Live Aid concert and has being doing it constantly and consistently for over twenty years. He is after all one of the few celebrities using his cache to open doors for this cause - for that alone he should be applauded.

So what if he lives in a mansion - fact is he bought his home in Dublin about 16 years ago - and it didn't even cost a million IR pounds back then. Its only worth a few million today because property prices in Dublin have sky-rocketed over the past ten years. And in fact its not even a mansion - it's a large 5 bedroom family home. And yes, he does donate too, so sounds like you owe him your respect!

I think you are unaware of how much celebs donate to charities. I think it is good. (But I know they have to, to beat the taxman.) I think Bono has donated big bucks and I respect what he is doing. Most celebs do it quietly--I'm glad he is doing it with fanfare.....to get others involved.

Why don't you donate--if not cash, then your time to some exhausted mom?

I do respect what Bono is doing. I respect what any celebrity or non-celebrity is doing to bring attention to serious issues. I do not believe that he is just a mouth-piece. I believe that he is sincere in this and has contributed many hours and many dollars to this effort. What he is now doing is trying to get everyone's attention and for them to take a stand and make our governments actually help with this.

Yes. Even if Bono were doing this for his image and celebrity, he has helped bring the debate of foreign aid and ending global poverty into mainstream culture.

We just can't let Bono overshadow the real heroes of humanitarianism-- those who work for the NGOs and other organizations, who experience the day-to-day, on-the-ground reality of poverty and have truly made this their life's work.

Of course , at least hes trying to do something, and besides no-one pays attention to a nobody , at least hes using his fame to accomplish something. A not just become more self righteous by trying to sell himself.....like most celebs.

I saw a television spot of him and the clothing line he was promoting. I thought is was a venue he had founded, maybe not, but I agree his platform is needed, but he does need to money into his project. I something is given you, all your resources should go into it before you try to involve other groups and people.

I do. He seems to be the only one out there who due to him being a celebrity people look up to him and want to be followers. Video is proof that he is out there with these countries and helping as he knows how to get the word out there to help.
