how did noah fit into the people in the red coats? i missed some of the movie, so were the people in the red coats all humans? or evil ghosts or something?

They were the adults trying to keep all of the children from going to the outside world. It was all a big conspiracy put on by the adults of the village.

You missed SOME of the movie... I think you missed the whole point! The Village elders were the one's in the red coat. They started a sort of commune where they tried to create life like it would be before "the evil of modernity". There were no ghosts or anything like that!

The creatures in the red coats were made up by the village founders, to scare the younger folk into never trying to explore the woods, therefore finding the "real" world. They formed their village, like a cult, to escape the real world's cruelties and crime, to revert to Godliness and simple life. The red coat creatures were created based on old folklore to scare the younger villagers and to keep them in line, to keep them home and to protect the secret of the village. Noah found a costume and being smarter than everyone thought, knew enough to use it to scare Ivy, hoping she would not succeed in getting her boyfriend's medicine, because he loved her in his twisted way.

ok. even as the movie starts they teach you a tombstone that makes you imagine the year is 1897. of direction it in't. The elders of the village are all residing a lie meant to guard all of them. in an attempt to save villages out of the woods and from gaining knowledge of the authentic international they got here up with a folklore about those whom we dont communicate about (the monsters). Noah (the retarted boy) has a overwhelm on Ivy (the blind female). they're acquaintances, not brother and sister. Ivy is in love with Lucious. Noah is truly jealous and assaults Lucious with a knife. Noah become punished and put in a room the position he unearths between the monster matches and makes a decision to have some relaxing. no individual understand its Noah till the in simple terms about end of the movie even as Ivy is operating away and tricks him into falling in a hollow. There weren't ever any genuine monsters, that's implied on the very end of the movie that Ivy's dad become probably the first monster and placed on the adventure to start up the legend to get people interior the village to take area. As for Noah, he wasn't all there and it isn't printed why he did the flaws he finished.

You saw the end, right? Where it was revealed WHY they were all living there?
The redcoated creatures were the elders in disguise, trying to scare the villagers to keep them in the Village. The more it seemed someone wanted to leave, the more the "creatures" would appear. Noah found one of the costumes after escaping from the hut.

The "demons" walking around was the village elders tring to keep people from leaving the village. Noah (He was the retarded guy, right?) Accidently found a costume and was playing around.

They were elders of the village trying to instill fear into the others to prevent them from going into the woods to leave but one of them went crazy and took it upon himself to terrorize the people.
