sea-horse ?

worms and sea horses aren't mammals.

the question is unanswerable because it is a meaningless sequence of words.

you might just as well ask what is the square root of red?

a mammal cannot be of the opposite gender because mammal isn't a gender. it is a class of animals, the individual animals belonging to that class have a characteristic called gender, which can be either male or female and those two genders are often considered to be opposites. but strictly speaking, they are not opposites. They are complements.

opposite is a more of a mathmatical or political term than it is a grammatical term.

mammals don't have opposites. people often consider dogs and cats to be opposites, but they aren't. they are just two different species. The opposite of dog isn't cat. It's ~dog.

thanks for the answer but, ....

my argument is that the question is badly phrased to the point of being unanswerable. if you re-word it, you could have a really good brain-teaser there. get rid of the phrase "is of the opposite gender".

also, i am familiar with the species and appendage you speak of, although i wasn't aware of the animal using it for homosexual play. but that is all it is. play. you can't really call it "mating". that is extremely misleading because the term "mating" especially in zoology, implies an effort at procreating.

all the same, thanks a lot. this is the first question i've read on this site that has really interested and puzzled me.
