Which guitar is better to start out with- acoustic or electric? This is assuming the player does not know how to play and is going to be taking lessons.

It realy depends on the person.Wether ur a fast learner,or sum 1 who is capable of teaching themselves. Most people would agree w/ the acoustic, and that is true. They consider to be easier and a great way 2 begin be 4 u move on to the electric guitar. But like i said,it depends on the person. You see, my sister and i never learned how to play the acoustic, and we didn't start out w/ it first. We both got the electric guitar first, read the booklet, and simply taught ourselves how 2 play. So,if u are the same person who is capable of fast learning and teaching ur self, then i'd say go for the electric. But if u arn't capable,go for the acoustic.Your choice.Either way,if u learn how to play the electric guitar first,u have a pretty good idea how to play the acoustic. But like i said it depends on the person, and is ur choice.

There are advantages to both. If you have an electric guitar, you have to buy extra equipment such as an amplifier and cords. However, you can do a lot more with an electric like add effects pedals. Acoustic guitars don't need any additional equipment to play. However, The strings on electric guitars are lighter, and it would probably be easier for a novice player who hasn't developed calluses yet,. On the other hand, if you start with an acoustic and become good at it, it will be a lot easier to switch over to an electric guitar for the first time than it would be to switch from electric to acoustic.

A third option is to buy an acoustic/electric guitar. They are acoustic guitars with a 1/4" jack to plug into an amp. They sound pretty similar to regular guitars, but they don't have same feel that a regular electric guitar has. Hope this helps.

if your going with an inexpensive guitar, electrics are usually easier on the fingers, but you got to buy an amp. also what style of music is a factor. rock or country, an electric. sitting around the campfire,or impressing family members, an acoustic.

obviously an acoustic as you don't have to pay out for an amp! you can also take it anywhere and play it as is so i would say definitely an acoustic!

I started with an acoustic, I don't see how it would matter too much though.
