I recently watched FRANTIC, an R rated film with Harrison Ford from, well, sometime in the 90s. It had less sex and violence than Adam Sandler's CLICK. What is the MPAA smoking?

OK, Frantic was from 1988, but I think the question is still valid.

Times have changed! Heck, Basic Instinct came out in the 90s and Sharon Stone showed the world her mommy parts (just for a second). That was rated R back in the 90s but really wouldn't cause a stir now. There was a movie in the late 80's starring Brooke Shields when she was 15 years old. She played oposite some boy her same age. The movie was about these two cousins who are stranded on an island together. They eventually fall in love, run around naked, and have sex. Young naked teens running around and having sex on screen would have been rated XXX in the 50s but it was rated R when it came out. I still think it was inappropriate, family members having sex, but I'm not the judge. Maybe today that would be rated PG13.

I just want to know why they ever created a NC-17 rating when there has never been a movie rated that.

The MPAA rates things very strange. Like The Exorcist has some pretty bad words in there but other than that, it's pretty PG-13 stuff. And some of the G movies should be rated PG and some PG-13 movies should be PG but are rated PG-13 because they're a little bit more dark. . .I don't know, I don't think we'll ever know the MPAA's motives behind their ratings.

I think most PG-13 movies these days are made to be borderline R rated. That is why it seems PG-13 movies should be rated R.

It's just Hollywood trying to bend the rules and trying to screw up our society even more.

Ratings change with the times.
Remember the show Rocky Horror Picture Show? When it came out it was rated X. I had to get a fake ID just to go and see it. Now you can rent it at any video store at any age.

Yeah the ratings have changed as you've noticed. It's pretty messed up how more is considered acceptable but shouldn't be.
