Here is why it bothers me. There are thousands of people which have immigrated legally to this country, that are still not adept at speaking English. Why don't we have a line for German, France, Afganani, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean etc.? Is this fair? No. The illegals are being catered to.

What really irritates me is that we have to press any number.I long for the good ole days when your calls were actually answered by a real live breathing person. Now after you go through the process of picking a language if you are making a customer service help call chances are your not going to be able to understand the person on the other end anyway because you are likely to be speaking to someone in India or God knows where so even if you choose the English option chances are you can't understand the version of English being spoken to you so it's pretty much a no win situation.

The order of the languages the following is meant to accomodate the most clients. maximum communicate english, so as that is provided first. there are an excellent style of spanish-speaking people in united statesa., so that's a strong theory to provide spanish too inspite of the actuality that that is not an good language. Canada has 2 good languages: So we get press a million for English and 2 for French almost each and each and every time.

Nope, what bugs me is that a silly American forgets that it could have been 1 for french, 2 for English, 3 for Dutch, 4 for Spanish, 5 for Portuguese.

You are a country that grew from the colonist dreams of another continent. You don't like the message, move to England...

BTW: I live in Belgium; we have 1 for Dutch, 2 for French, 3 for English, 4 for German*. You're nagging about one extra button?

*(Dutch, French & German are Belgium's official languages; we added English because a lot of people here only speak English & tourists can understand the message)

Absolutely it does. I think we should boycott all places of business that do that. Go to Mexico and the businesses will not say press 1 for spanish press 2 for english.

For English speakers only!? Are you joking or just a total racist? I happen to speak English but guess what, I didn't exactly choose that. It has everything to do with where I was born and who may parents are. Do you presume to think that you chose to be born to American, English speaking parents? You could have been born anywhere, could we blame you for coming to America for opportunities and still preferring your native language? There are much more important things you could be addressing on a forum like this.

In the UK it would be like this:
1. English
2. Hindi
3. Urdu
4. Punjabi
5. Polish
6. Romanian
7. Somalian
8. Serbian
9. Croatian
10. Latvian

So you think you have problems? By the time you get through the automated part of the call, you have forgotten why you phoned. LOL

I speak Spanish and English and it irritates me. It has nothing to do with the language it's just that I want instant service and the chance to actually speak to a person.

Yup, and you can't even go into a Lowe's without seeing a sign that says Hardware and then underneath it the spanish word for hardware. It just don't make sense. English is our national language. If you don't like it, go back where you came from and you can speak jibberish for all I care. Just don''t do it here.

NOPE, it just reminds me that we live in a great nation that has no set "official" language.

This was done because our great nation was built on the blood, sweat and tears of immigrants. That our own ancestors and forefathers came from many lands and spoke many languages. That we honor our collective heritage of the "great melting pot" by not making any one language our "official" language.

I've found that those who complain about it the most are doing so because those who speak Spanish are another race, and it's their veiled attempt to cover up their blatant racism.

I hate ALL the automated answering services...I always keep pressing "0" unitl I get an actual human being on the phone and even if that person spoke ancient gaelic, I would be happier than with the automated thing.
