what does an inconclusive result for cancer mean?

inconclusive means neither a positive nor a negative. You will probably have to have more tests done soon. Remember that a lot of people believe that positive thinking gives positive reaction. Good luck

It means they aren't saying yes or no. Usually it means that there was not a good enough sample to get an accurate result. This is not an error, or poor test practises, it's just that human tissues are not uniform. They should do it again!

This is not bad, and not good. No test is infinitely sensitive.

A small number of cancer cells may have been present and may be destroyed by the immune system, and the next test may be negative.
