You can always tell by their eyes. I've heard that if a person is looking to their left when answering, they're lying and when theyre looking to the right they're telling the truth. For me I can tel when someone's eyes are going all over the place like they're trying to think of something to tell you.

If their mouth is moving, then they're probably lying!
Hahahaha =)
Naw, really, I always assume that people are being as truthful as they can be. I make assessments and adjustments to what I say and do as per the particular circumstances dictate.
Most people want to be honest and if you stay in control of your side of any interaction with others and give them the opportunity they will be honest.
When you put someone in a position of compromising their comfort zone, you run the risk of not just dishonesty but downright hostility.
I just keep the principle of the lock in mind, that principle states that locks are for honest people, crooks defeat locks.

I strap them to a lie detector test when they aren't looking. Sure it is a little awkward at first, and I have to keep the battery pack with me, but it is effective. Injecting them with truth serum works as well. Some people are just inordinately good liars, and there is no way to tell. Some people are sociopaths and they don't know when they are lying. For most of us there is a hitch in our voice or a looking away rather than a direct look in the face. I am not a good liar. My body language gives me away.

According to Samuel L. Jackson in the movie "The Negotiator" if their eyes go up and to the right, then they're lying.

Typically, you discover it. The easiest solution is to know the person first. When you know what type of character that person has then you can assume the product of that character will remain somewhat constant.

It's always in their eyes hon. Look them in the eyes and you shall know the truth. Your words may lie but your eyes can't.

I ask them if they're telling the truth...if they say yes I believe them, or at least pretend to. If they say no, then at least they weren't lying about lying.
