Several presidential candidates lost their own state over the years, including Jefferson in 1792 against Washington. If you want to consider the ticket system, where the President and vice president ran on a single ticket instead of the runner up winning the vice president position, then in 1840 Martin Van Buren lost his home state to William Henry Harrison.
Alton Brooks Parker lost his home state to Theodore Roosevelt in 1904 if you want to look at the modern age.
And even better was in 1912 when Woodrow Wilson, arguably the best president we have ever had, and a Democrat, took the home states of both Roosevelt and William Howard Taft, the other major candidates, and the home states of the two other mentionable candidates.
Best of all was in 1936, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt, another Democrat, took all but 2 states, 523 electoral votes out of 531, and over 60% of the popular vote. He was President for 12 years, creating many of the modern government systems we have today, including social security. He also ended prohibition, brought the U.S. out of the great depression, and was prominent in helping end WW II.
Al Gore did not lose the election because of losing his state, he lost because the supreme court voted 5 to 4 to stop the recount efforts in Florida that were under way, and instead of fighting the decision, Mr. Gore offered his concession of the election, ""for the sake of our unity of the people and the strength of our democracy,"
Next time you try to be a smart @ss, try educating yourself you backwoods redneck republican dip-5hit!!

The great, inventor, Alfred Gore Jr, of Tennessee. The folks in TN knew how much of an idiot he was. It's too bad the democrat party was too slow and dumb to catch on.
Now, Gore's went on to bigger and smellier things, like being Michael Moore II, a fraudulant movie-maker.

because he wasn't from Tennessee. He grew up in Washington DC, lived in the Fairfax inn and went to St Albans Prep college in DC for prime college. Spending summer season holiday in TN would not make you a Tennessean.
