Hi. It is ALL points based. Each grade has 3 point levels eg a 1st is 14-16, 2.1 is 11-13, 2.2 is 8-10 and a 3rd is 6-9. A resit is 3-5 and anything below that is outright fail. A dissertation is graded the same way. Then at the end of the degree you take the dissertation plus the top 12 results and add them together. The points then show what division your overall degree will be.
Your daughter can check out the division guide and points system on her uni website. Good luck and well done to her. I got a 2.1 in law and then a Distinction at post grad level so I know how hard she has worked.

In my daughter's case it is mostly a 'points' system. Because of the recent industrial action, her final exams were delayed and she was assessed on what work had been marked. She told me that she had been given an interim mark of 239 (a 2/1) but that they admitted that it should have been rounded to 240 (which would be a First). On speaking to her tutors after the degree ceremony, they reassured us that she would have no problem achieving a First based on the dissertations and the final exam. It appears that it is based on a points system rather than a percentage of students - certainly at Keele. I wouldn't say that all universities use the same system but I think it likely.

Good luck to your daughter!

It can be at the discretion of the lecturer.

Unfortunately students are graded according to a bell shaped curve where 2/10 get 1st, 3/10 2:1, 5/10 get 2:2 or 3rd.

It's all to do with moderation and ultimately funding for the university.

I speak from bitter experience . . . when I was studying for my final year exams one of my lecturers took steps to fail me (even though I was getting 1sts for my essays). This way the university could squeeze more course fees out of me.

They tried to cover it up . . . and failed abysmally.

At the end of the day - try and encourage your daughter to work hard no matter what people say. It will hold her in good stead when she applies for her 1st job.

Best of luck.

In UK its all down to her average of essay marks and her exam and dissertation marks. Gert her to work really hard (I bet you're already doing that, hence this question). The only way to increase your mark (and yes, its sort of a cheat but many do it) is to tell your personal tutor of soemthing going on in your life that is affecting your concentration. Mine was genuine - I was getting divorced. I knew several that made things up though. I'm not saying its right - but it's what some do..I hope she does really well and with a parent like you I'm sure she will.

In intense college, I carried out all A's through analyzing problematical, getting various relax, and eating precise. i did not run round with friends plenty, in straightforward words worked for the time of vacation trips, and constrained my extra-curricular activities. I in straightforward words used the textbooks that the instructors gave us or informed us to get from the library. I likely spent 2-3 hours in conserving with nighttime on homework. I made and attempt to make all A's, and it replaced into my best precedence. I had to artwork plenty more durable in college to make instantly A's in each and every thing. although many human beings disagree, i imagine that residing contained in the dorm and eating contained in the cafeteria helped me out plenty with that. i did not ought to spend time cleansing or cooking. It replaced into all dealt with for me except for my laundry and vacuuming. i replaced into able to make analyzing a precedence. also, I made a level to study someplace besides the dorm. The library, a operating laptop or computer lab, or an empty lecture room were places i found to do homework the position i might want to concentration on analyzing rather of eating or slumbering or being distracted through noise and friends.
