You make a good point. It's pointless to argue Jesus' ethnicity. As an American though, it's not a hot topic of debate. Many people like the idea of depicting Jesus in an image similar to theirs, to remind them that Jesus is human. Part of the reason too, is that Europeans depicted Jesus as looking like them. I guess since the art world was so huge in Europe, the image stuck.

Why do you like to start sht? You make assumptions and then hypothesize and proceed to piehole your dogmatic opinions to anyone who will listen. When you address 'Americans' you are calling out a variety of human beings from S. America or N. America including Canada and immigrants notwithstanding, including Americans that are immigrants to other countries and etc. Americans not only come in many sizes shapes and colors and back rounds, we have had many different stereotypes that have been cast upon us. You state the profoundly obvious that Jesus was Jew! You are a RACIST! Duhhhhhhhh Jesus was a Jew. Your country sucks because you are prejudice, and you people judge others haughtily, and I hope someday we bomb you

Because most Americans doing the arguing aren't reading their Bibles. It is human nature to want to relate to God in a way that reminds us of ourselves.....(and it also has some psychcosocial undercurrents.... all the artistic representations of Jesus for the last few hundred years have been of the dominator/colonial cultures, and used as symbols of oppression...) but THAT'S another story!

In the minds of every religion that believes in God, God is THEIR religion... so, to Christians he is Christian.. to Jews he is Jewish, to Catholics, he is Catholic... each religion has it's own beliefs... people should be willing to accept that.. but, unfortunately, people aren't.
Myself, I'm an agnostic athiest! I often wonder why, if there is a God, why he lets things happen in this world that happen?!! God is suppost to be the creator.. and the watcher of humanity... people pray to their God for what? Look at the death and destruction.. disease... the way people die.. the age that some people die? How can anyone believe that there is a God with the world we live in today??
This is my point... I believe in what I believe in... you believe in what you believe in... so to others.
There is no right or wrong.. there is no better religion than another religion.
People should keep their religion to themselves... maybe a law should be passed that religion should be kept private and within the sanctity of a church... Christians can not discuss their religion with Catholics who can not discuss theirs with Jews who can not discuss theirs with Muslims, etc, etc, etc... wouldn't it be a better place? Less wars maybe? Less terrorism maybe?
Can't we all just get along!

Because people want "their God" to be just like them.
If people actually paid attention to "Christmas" or actually knew what they were reading when they read the bible they would know that Jesus was born a Jew.
I'm black and I know in the Bible that they say Jesus has skin that looked bronze and hair of wool. Those are characteristics of African Americans but I think that God is God. Nothing more, nothing less.
Regardless of whether he fits in your descriptions of who you want him to be, he is still the one and only God!!

I've often wondered that myself. I think of God as more of a jewel, like a ruby, rather than a person. Each facet of the ruby is another aspect, face, name, attribute of God. Whenever I make comparisons of word origins of names of God(s) or of the similarity between gods of different cultures, people get mad. They have trouble taking my point.
By the way, what country are you from?

He was the Jew born to fulfill the Law of Moses, as the Son of God and the Redeemer, Savior of all Mankind. Judaism is fulfilled in Jesus Christ and the law of Moses was fulfilled by His commandments, i.e. an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth was replaced by love your neighbor as ye love yourself. Jesus taught us the higher law, to love your enemies, to return good for evil. He taught us, by coming to the earth, that we can bring heaven to earth by the way we treat others. He also established the principles and ordinances of His gospel on the earth.

Americans do believe that Jesus was Jewish. Only on Yahoo. Answers do they argue such things. It is mostly none believers thinking they are making believers foolish looking. Yes, I feel your statement is correct.

First of all, not only Americans but also other people do that.
Second of all it is the nature of person not to follow, especially in case of religion, even though one religion is divided into different parts, so it is just practiced that way.
