I really enjoyed the book: it was classically written. The ending leaves room for a sequel (perhaps). I was somewhat disappointed with the last chapter: it seemed to be written in a hurry to tie up loose ends. If you liked that read any Gothic novel from the Victorian period.

Here's what I thought of the book: http://www.joewiebe.com/books/historian.htm

Another good modern vampire book is Dan Simmons' "Children of the Night." You also might like Susanna Clarke's "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell," thought I thought it needed to be trimmed by about 300 pages. You can read my review here: http://www.joewiebe.com/books/jonathan_strange.htm

i loved that book, though the ending was a tad disappointing. The Bloody Red Baron is good, too
