"A good place to start your calculations might be the 2.353 million drop in U.S. production workers since 2000, and the hollowing-out of most American town centers by the behemoth Wal-Marts which are always located on the cheap-land fringe of town. This insures a lengthy commute for all area residents and the decimation of local retailers"

Because you're trapped. If you need a hammer, you go to Wal-Mart. If you need milk, you go to Wal-Mart. If you need a shirt, you go to Wal-Mart. If you need a steering wheel cover, you go to Wal-Mart.

Sure you can go to specialty stores, or even support your local mom and pop store, but you'll pay more. At one point, families would while away a whole day at the mall. Now it's in and out at Wal-Mart.

The same way Home Depot killed the independent hardware stores, Wal-Mart is killing American culture. Why go to a flower shop to get a bouquet for your girl, when you can get one cheaper at Wal-Mart? Why stop at the deli for roast beef when Wal-Mart is $2 cheaper a pound? Why go buy scented candles from the lady who runs a candle shop, when Wal-Mart sells them 4 for a dollar? We're all trapped... it sucks... and I need to go there tomorrow for some milk.

You don't know how lucky you are. We don't even have Wal Mart in England. The first and only Wal Mart I visited was in the Toronto (Canada) suburb of Scarborough

Maybe because it's becoming the only place you can go to get those goodies? Kmart doesn't have what people need half the time, and Target just doesn't have as wide a variety.

Did you work there once? If so that may have something to do with it.

I used to work for Mc Donalds too and they sell good food but I hate the way the company works.

Because you know it's a heartless, soulless corporate monster that
does all it can to stiff its employees and drives other, smaller businesses bankrupt by selective undercutting of prices.
