I've been told by some it isn't David Bowie. Let me clarify, this is a much older version of the song than you are used to. Probably 1970's.

I've looked at the lyrics to all of the artists mentioned so far. They are all the same. I'm looking for the artist whose lyrics include the lines "..hey kids boogie to the deejay...hey shadow of summertime blues..." There's definitely a difference in the sounds of "did ya'" and deejay. Well, I will give this another day.

Renee, the Essex version is the one from the 70's I d/l'd it last night. I even went to a 60's site looking for a David Bowie version. Maybe he sang it live and you heard it. I will try some obscure lyric sites. Catch ya later.

The song "Rock On" was recorded by David Essex. To my knowledge, Bowie never put out a song by that title and the Essex song is the only one that I'm aware of.

I graduated high school in 1979 so I'm pretty familiar with the progressive FM radio music of that time period and if there had been a Bowie song I would have known it since I'm a big fan of his.

It's David Essex, not Bowie. Michael (gag) Damien did the later one.

Heh, funny you should ask - I heard the David Essex Rock On (ie the RIGHT one) on the car radio on the way to work this morning.

The only version I know of was done by David Essex. "Hey shout out summertime blues, jump up and down in blue suede shoes. Hey did ya boggie too? Didja? "Anymore than that someone else will have to come up with.
