Hi,
Lady Godiva
was a grand lady of impeccable reputation.
She was modest and caring.
When she rode through town bare back to protest a just cause, she predicted no any of the towns people would look at her, and never a one did.
She got her point accross and I believe it was directed to her husband to humiliate him...because he put an unjust and heavy tax on the common people.
Love,
Lily

I thought of the Godiva tale a time or two over the last few years. There were anti-war protests where the protestors took off their clothes. Some of them were indeed exhibitionists, but some were simply so upset over the war that this was a way of "projecting" a personal shame onto something they felt was shameful. The Godiva legend was such a projection. In the stories, all of the common folk were supposed to turn away from her because the oppressing feudal lord was the only one who was supposed to witness the protest. The people then symbolicly agreed when turning a blind eye to her otherwise shameful act.

Actually i read in Reader's Digest "truth and myth" articles that poor lady Godiva herself was not bare.
The horse, she rode, was without a saddle .The "back" of the horse was "bare"
So "lady rode bareback" phrase is misunderstood one.

She really cared about the community.
She was protesting something she didn't believe in.

Well, if she didn't want to show "her package," there are other ways she could have shown her care for her community. Plus, she may have simply realized that she had a nice set of t!ts and fine a$$, and wanted the locals to understand her pride. :-)
