Someone whom I care about is graduating in the beginning of August, and I want to make something special for her. But the thins is is that I won't be able to see her at all...and the only way of communicating is by means of phone and IMs...but I have her mailing address and everything, and she doesn't know that I'll be sending something to her on her special day. She's getting her Master's, and I was thinking of making one of my specialty cards and then a big piece of something and putting together a collage of all the things she's done for me, leading up to her graduation....I don't really know what kind of gift a graduate would want, even though she's graduated several times already in the past. What would be a good gift, that's perhaps homemade, but still extraordinary enough to be a great present?

She deserves it.

I like the collage idea. It is very personal and will always be a reminder. Make it a standard size so you can get an 'off the shelf' frame and frame it. This makes the item immediately displayable in her home, even if it is in the office or basement. It makes it easier for her to make it prominent and a more lasting reminder.

Have you noticed the 'scrap-booking' phenomenon? Take some ideas from that, if you can, to make the collage creatively appealing. The more you put into it the more it is appreciated! Go to a bookstore or library and look through some magazines on the subject and go for it!

Good for you. Feel good that you are doing something special for a person you are close to!

seems you've already made up your mind on this one.

When my daughter graduated last year I bought her a gold necklace .
When I graduated people bought me flowers, which I really liked, and my husband bought me an engraved watch.

I think it is good to mark this special day.
