Because they have no other means of communication that is as clear to everyone around them.

A hungry baby, for example, will shake her/his head from side to side or suck on her/his fingers or clothes. If the parents miss that, the baby will cry to be fed.

A baby in pain may make faces and cling tightly to the parents. But if they don't do anything to make the pain go away, baby will cry.

A baby whose needs are met will rarely cry. One whose parents don't listen when baby tries more subtle means of communication will have no other choice.

When a baby cries because he's hungry, it's because he's really having hunger pains. And to him, they hurt.

When a baby cries when he's too warm or too cold, it's because he's uncomfortable.

When a baby cries because he needs to burp, it's because he has gas bubbles inside of him. And to him, they hurt.

When adults are tired, they deal with it. When adults are hot or cold, they either take off clothing or put more on. When they need to burp or fart, they do it and laugh. When they're hungry, they either make something or buy something to eat.

Adults can do things themselves. Or speak, and tell someone else to help them with their unease.

A baby cannot. They can't make their own food, can't take their clothes off, change their own diaper, or burp themselves. So they cry. They cry because being uncomfortable or hurting, in a world so big to them, is they only way that they know how to communicate.

Don't worry so much about why they cry. Do what you can so they don't.

Babies have only one way to vocalize at first, and that is crying.
They are TOTALLY egocentric little creatures who are helpless.
They cry because they are hungry, wet, dirty, gassy, sleepy, have an itchy nose, a wrinkle in their shirt, they want to be held, they want to be put down......if there is an emotion or a problem, they cry.
Fortunately, in only a few weeks, they begin to gurgle and coo and make other cute sounds.

Babies cry because that is their only way to communicate. Babies will cry when they are hungry, sleepy, in pain, sick, sometimes when they want to be held...etc.

It is the only way they can comunicate to us that they need something. What if your mouth was wired shut and you fell and couldn't get up, wouldn't you cry because you couldn't call out and let someone know that something was wrong?
Have a great day!!

Because that is their only form of communication for the first year or maybe longer depending on the kid. they cry when they are fussy, hungry, wet, tired, or just want to be loved.

Since babies can't talk they have to express themselves in other ways. For you to ask this questions means either two things

2. You just stupid
