Latinos, African Americans, orientals, other nationalities complain about their 'rights' but I don't see any of them living on reservations & no opportunites in life. Let's address THAT issue-if we dare. All was taken from them but no-one seems to care. why is that?

Those reservations are tax free properties. The rest of us pay property taxes. The indians are making millions on their casino's but many tribes don't choose to share the wealth with their tribe. Why are we to blame for that? Do some research into all the grants and available monies and government breaks for the native indians before you spout off. You just might be awfully surprised how much there is for them.

I would like to know why you're so indignant about a topic on which you are sadly uninformed.

In case you hadn't heard, "orientals" are rugs. The term is Asian.

Native Americans are not CONFINED to reservations. They have all the same opportunities that other Americans have.

Native Americans benefit from the following:

tax free enterprise on the reservation---states do not collect taxes from tobacco sales, casinos, etc. as they do from non-NA owned businesses. This gives NA's a significant competitive edge over other businesses.

preferred status on government contracts

preferred status for college admissions, scholarships, government loan programs, etc.

Let me discuss the "land was taken from them" question. Suppose my mother sold her house 5 years ago for $250,000 to some people who did some renovations, updated the furnace, etc. and it's now worth $500,000. Should she be permitted to go back to the people who now own it and demand restitution because the property is now worth so much more than they paid for it? Of course not. And that's the example that explains why the argument that the NA's are victimized by the Evil White Man who paid them only beads for Manhattan island which is now worth untold trillions is a ridiculous argument.

Native Americans do live on reservations, but they get gvmt paid scholarships, tax breaks for living on the reservations, and in a lot of states that allow gambling, are some of the only people to have permission to run casinos.

What do you mean they don't get any respect?

And who's not giving them opportunities? they aren't being kept in camps or not allowed to do the exact same things I'm allowed to do, so it looks to me like opportunity is what you make of it.

I put myself through school and work hard to maintain a good paying job. I never got a hand out, and I won't ever ask for one. I expect the same of anybody else. Otherwise, they don't deserve respect.

I think you need to read up on your issues. I am white but grew up on an Indian reservation (my family lived in that area before it even became a reservation). I know how things are there. You would be suprised by how many rights they have that others do not. As for the no opportunities in life--thats a PERSONAL choice NOT a racial choice. I know many natives that are making something of themselves (IE-doctors, EMTs, lawyers, etc).

Because Indians are smarter than the average white man.

Read the proof, below.

Lone Ranger and Tonto

The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping in the desert.
After they got their tent all set up, both men fell sound asleep.

Some hours later, Tonto wakes the Lone Ranger and says, "Kemo Sabe, look towards sky, what you see?"

The Lone Ranger replies, "I see millions of stars."

"What that tell you?" asked Tonto.
The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then says, "Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.
Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo.
Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three in the morning.
Theologically, the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant.
Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow.

What's it tell you, Tonto?"

Tonto replies, "You dumber than buffalo dung. Someone stole the tent."

What would you have us to do?? How do we stop ignoring Indians?

In fact we've built them a museum down in DC. I guess that's the ultimate insult when your culture and heritage are not practiced, it's all but destroyed, and relegated to a dust free environment behind glass.

Anyway, it's so patronizing to purposefully "pay attention" to the indians. It's like visiting old people in a nursing home and giving out hugs.

Besides, it's normal to operate within our own self interests in society. That's called "pursuit of happiness", -how are we suppose to think that we should pursue their happiness. After all, that's their business.

My understanding and this is what I was told in school is that American Indians can go to college for free. I remember a teacher of mine tell that to one of my classmates. I also thought that it was a choice for them if they wanted to live on the reservations. My college mascot and Indian too. In my eyes all races are equal.

are you kidding me? you're kind of ignorant on this subject. they have their very own welfare system and free medical care regardless of income. they are able to get free admission to many colleges. they are not forced to live on reservations - those that do so do it by choice to maintain their culture and lifestyles. I am from Oklahoma, I can assure you that native americans have plenty of opportunities.

They don't care because they don't want to have any problems. What they don't realize is that they've got a huge one. It is cruel and horrifing what they put these people through, but it will take a lot for society to change.
