The news focuses mainly on bad things in the world to get some people's attention, to warn them of upcoming tragedies like weather realted, and to get people ready if an escaped convict is in their part of town. Otherwise, sometimes the news people talks about celebrities and entertainment to entertain people. The news isn't all that bad because they report a lot of bad things.

Many news shows have nice stories about triumphs, but the main part is bad news. It stinks, but the truth is (and a very good truth, as well) is that the majority of things that stand out in the world are when bad things happen. It would be quite awful if the majority of news that stood out was that people were good, and good things were happening. Be grateful it hasn't gotten to that point yet.

The news focuses on the bad things because the news is controlled by the left wing, they are completely against anything that would seem good.

the media is doing the same thing about the war in IRAQ, for example, Brian Chontosh, a U.S. Marine, was awarded the NAVY CROSS!! the Navy Cross is the second highest award for combat bravery that the U.S. awards, after only the congressional medal of honor. But, NO, you dont hear anything about that on the news or in the newspaper!! it makes me sick. Instead, you only hear about Lynndie England and the other MPs who abused the prisoners! the media is only concerned with feeding the U.S. a non-stop feed of gloom and doom. we should destroy the media and set up an unbiased media.

I do not think the news focuses only on bad things, they focus on useless things ie celebrities and I could not care less about how babies they have or how they get married, people do that everyday. If the news wanted to focus on bad things, they will talk more about Sudan, they will talk more about Haiti and other parts of the world where human beings live restlessly.
The news only bring about what it wants us to know to shape our minds, I say don't stick to one source, read whatever you can because there is news and there is news.

It's a simple matter really, we are more interested in bad things happening than good. It's like a car wreck, everyone slows down to see a glimpse of someone possibly hurt not to mention the wreckage to the vehicles. And unfortunately, the media knows this. They can make more revenue with bad things happening in the world versus happy stories. Sad, but true.

The news is supposed to focus on significant things that are relevant to its readers.

News agencies do cover positive things, but these things tend to not be as sensational as negative things. Sensation sells advertising, so they emphasize the negative.

The news media also is supposed to play the role of government watchdog for the people, so they are responsible for investigating and reporting government corruption.

As a couple of people answered, bad news sells!! The media doesn't care about anything but money..IE "the new york times" letting the cat out of the bag about terrorist's bank accounts being monitored...........THAT sold a few thousand more copies!

because dirty laundry sells. A lot of people like to hear about bad things happening to other people to make them feel better about themselves.
This is supposed to be natural. personally, I don't watch the news, because it's all just bad stuff.

cuz that's what they're getting paid to do. think that people are more interested i seeing negartivity than positive things and people do more bad non-moral things to be on the news. i think that it may never change but you can make things better by looking at all the good things in your life.....it may help tremendously <(*u*)>
