There are a couple ways around it.
There are several sites such as: http://www.pruxy.com/index.php
that will browse for you - these might be blocked - but odds are one or two have been missed by your work

or you can get a list of proxy servers that are available (there are serveral websites that list these as well) and you can use those servers to browse and bypass your works.

What kind of firewall are you talking about? Is it your home PC's firewall or are you behind your company's or school's firewall? If it is your home PC's firewall then you can change the firewall settings to allow programs to communicate with the Internet. However, if your computer is behind a company's firewall or your school's firewall, you can still get past it but realize if you get caught you are toast. I can give you a reference but choose wisely: http://securetech.blogspot.com/2006/04/bypassing-firewalls-restrictions.html

If your at work go find your boss and say I really need to play Chess and ask him to open the firewall.

If your at school find the Admin.

If your at home find whoever set your system up.

not sure if this would work, but you could try
http://babelfish.altavista.com/
type in the webpage in the "translate a web page" section
select a language to the language you speak (probably english)

for example:
translate a web page: www.google.com
translate: spanish to english

then press the button
