originally derived from "emotionally hard-core," they're typically guys who wear tight pants and listen to alternative music. Wikipedia has a good article about the whole emo style.

emo is a derivative of punk. since punk(real punk anyway) is dead, emo and other genres like post-hardcore have taken the spotlight. it was spawned in the DC scene in the 80's.

I read a definition that it's the history of fashion, but I hear people say it means someone who tries to kill themselves/people who complain about absolutely nothing.
