I applaud your political current events knowledge. Even the media isn't paying attention to this one...
I’m guessing we’re narrowing the question to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, yes? ;)
As of yesterday, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation was the Honorable Norman Y. Mineta. Secretary Mineta was the longest serving Secretary in the history of the U.S. Department of Transportation and became the first Asian American to serve in the Cabinet when President Clinton named him Secretary of Commerce in Clinton's final year in office. Secretary Mineta was also the only Democrat in President Bush's Cabinet.
On Friday, June 23, 2006, Secretary Mineta announced his impending resignation, to be effective today, July 7, 2006. A permanent successor has yet to be named. In the interim, Maria Cino, Deputy Secretary of Transportation to Secretary Mineta will be acting Secretary of Transportation. Native New Yorker, Maria Cino was nominated by President George W. Bush as the Deputy Secretary of Transportation on April 6, 2005.
Prior to joining the administration, Ms. Cino had most recently served as Deputy Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). In this capacity, Ms. Cino was the RNC’s top political strategist and chief operating officer, overseeing operations of the Committee during the 2004 election cycle. During the 2000 cycle, Ms. Cino served as the Committee’s Deputy Chairman for Political and Congressional Relations, and was the National Political Director for Bush for President in Austin, Texas.
