Of course. Ignore all of the answers who bravely claim not to be - they're probably trying to assume an older persona and trying to convince you of their maturity, despite the fact that they are very young.
Fear of the dark is an instinctive human reaction. It's natural and stays with us throughout life.
Have you ever had to stick your hand into a box without knowing what is inside? it's the same reaction based on a human intuition to treat the unknown with uncertainty. And since the dark deprives you of what is awaiting you, you become hesitant and fearful.

Defined as "darkness or the dark", each year this surprisingly common phobia causes countless people needless distress.
To add insult to an already distressing condition, most fear of the dark therapies take months or years and sometimes even require the patient to be exposed repeatedly to their fear. We believe that not only is this totally unnecessary, it will often make the condition worse. And it is particularly cruel as fear of the dark can be eliminated with the right methods and just 24 hours of commitment by the phobic individual.
Known by a number of names - Achluophobia, Lygophobia, Myctophobia, Nyctophobia, Scotophobia, Fear of the Dark, and Fear of Darkness being the most common - the problem often significantly impacts the quality of life. It can cause panic attacks and keep people apart from loved ones and business associates. Symptoms typically include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and overall feelings of dread, although everyone experiences fear of the dark in their own way and may have different symptoms. .

Yes it is normal. You may have used the wrong word, scare, you are probably like many me included who likes to see a little when you have to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night or if you simply open your eye's it is reassuring to see that no one has entered your room while you slept. A very small night light as far away as you can get it will do the trick. When you wake you will be able to see everything but it is not to harsh that you can't get to sleep. I don't like to stumble over things when I get up and besides what others don't know is your little secret. Here's looking at you and take care

Yes. A say that I'm not but sometimes I am, well, in a way. It happens that sometimes that when I'm alone I feel small but that is rare. When there is a crowd of people a few hundred yards or just going to a place were no was is yet I feel that I am the darkness it self.

Depends on where you live! lol But seriously, yes it's normal to be scared of the dark. Everyone at sometime feels as if something is wrong. Don't worry you'll get over it soon enough. :)

I used to be scared of the dark. Then after a while I was like... what the hell am I scared about? I finally figured that I was scared of something was going to like jump out at me or something like a big animal. Then I was like... thats frikin ridiculous.
..until I was attacked by a saber-toothed tiger. Now I dont leave my room.
Good luck!

What is in the darkness that is scary? The only thing in Darkness is the unknown. I have been to abandoned hospitals and prisons at night and nobody wants to go in with me? I don't understand why do people fear the unknown? So to answer your question it is normal to fear it, until you realize their is nothing to fear.

Yes, It is. There is the element of the unknown and uncertainty of what may "go bump in the night." In addition with America's love affair with scary movies, an "over-active imagination" is an inherent quality of the human psyche du jour.
