The title pretty much says it all, but allow me to explain further. I have only been exposed to one song, which is to say, the same song that the rest of you have all heard by now unless you live in, say, the Middle East, and I imagine many of them have heard it privately as well. Translation: "I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor". I am, in every way, completely underwhelmed by this song, especially after the massive buzz surrounding the band and said single.
Nothing stood out in the song as fresh or original, and I had heard every trick they pulled performed by artists years ahead of them, and done better. I cannot deny the intense presence of pure catch to the single, but that is never what draws me to an artist. I need a band that either dares to be original, or really connects with me in some way, which TAM failed to achieve with their single. Am I rushing to judgement by dismissing them, or is there more to these frigid apes than I've heard that makes them worth my time?

i've heard a few other songs from them....they are ok, but i too am underwhelmed based on the hype that surrounds them......the critics raved over them but i have learned one thing to be true.....the critics are usally wrong.....

Arctic Monkeys rock! You totally should buy the album. I got the CD when it first came out but I got it at a record store where you can listen to samples of the songs first so I knew I'd like it. Even though I like "I Bet You Look Good On the Dance Floor" a lot, they have more lyrically complex songs on the album. They are one of my favorite indie bands and I have to say for a bunch of 19 year olds it's a pretty good album. I'd give it a chance if I were you b/c I really enjoy that CD, listen to samples first and that'll help you decide if it's your type of music.

I like them. However, if you don't like "I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor" I doubt if you'll like the rest of their album.
However, you might like the ID of their latest EP Who the **** Are Arctic Monkeys. Seen as a swipe back at the snowballing hype surrounding the band, the EP was ineligible to chart as a UK single or album. Furthermore, the record's bad language has resulted in much less radio airplay than their previous records, although they claim that this isn't much of a concern - "since they made their name on the internet - and that got them a No.1 single and album - they don't care if they don't get radio play". However, they were still accused of overmarketing.

Get the album, it's good rock and roll music, and you don't find that very much these days. Are they groundbreaking? No. Are they cutting edge? No. They play rock and roll songs, pretty good ones at that. So, if you like rock and roll music, and you have the money to spare, that is if you pay for music, then get it. Do not think that the Arctic Monkeys are the next great rock band though because that they have not shown with this album.

I would listen to some of the other songs on the album before making a judgment. Singles are not always the best songs on the album.

Absolutely buy the CD. I don't think the're worth all the hype they get, but I've owned the CD since it came out and have listened to it many times. Good, gritty rock and roll.

i think they are worth trying. i love the songs "when the sun goes down" and "no buses". to me, those are original and fun songs.
