Ya know what honey? After reading some of these answers I have to answer this question. First off I don't understand why you could not donate blood unless you were running a fever or had recently been sick. It has NOTHING to do with being gay. Men need to donate blood to refresh and stimulate their systems. Women get that every month until menopause. Now Why on earth does being gay, unless you have an STD, prevent you from being an organ doner? Most gay people I know take more precaution that the straight people I know. So with that said, just quit telling them your gay. It's quite frankly a non issue, unless you are infected with and STD or HIV positive. I would be ashamed if I were some of the previous answerers, mean people suck, and not in a good way. Nana

Its sad to say that in the past gay men could not give blood ( not because they are gay or because of there life style ). I am a gay man and i have wanted to give blood in the past but i could not as i was told that because i was gay i was at risk or getting HIV and it can take 12 weeks before it shows up in your blood. Even when i told them i was not having sex or that i had safe sex. HIV is not a gay illness, since HIV was blown out of all portion in the 80,s gay man where more prone to get infected due to having unsafe sex. This does not mean that gay men where having unsafe sex all the time with one or more partners.
I do not know where gay men stand now with giving blood or even if they can become Donner's. Times have moved on and around the world there are more st8, with HIV than gay men.
Contact your local NHS to find out more about gay men and giving blood or organs to ensure that you get the correct information. As this Question is a valid point which needs addressing.
hope this help,s

Blood is tested before being given to people so whether you're gay or straight, blood is just blood. I'm not sure why they would need to know your sexual orientation to donate blood. As for organs, they are the same thing.. If this is an ongoing problem you may want to seek legal counsel.

All organ donors are tested before the organs are used, so yes you can. I think at the moment in the U.K. at least, everyone is a potential donor until they opt out of the scheme.
If you go to donate blood they should just test you to see if you are a suitable donor; if you are gay and in a stable relationship you are less risk than a straight person who sleeps around.

i do not ignore that any guy who has ever had sex with yet another guy isn't allowed to donate blood, even if or not they're HIV adverse, inspite of the actuality that I have widespread gay adult males who do provide blood, yet i'm not positive about bone marrow. i'm positive that they doesn't be allowed on the bone marrow donation sign in, yet when it turned right into a donation to a relative then it will be a private count & see you later because the recipient become happy with it i assume that the wellbeing facility would do it.

well maybe you should not say that your gay. i mean since when does it matter what sex your interested in just to donate. maybe is just the place you live in. I'm a organ donor and i was never ask for my race age what sex i prefer or anything like that.
And to hear it from a hospital.. thatsa first. maybe they thought that just cause you are gay you probably have AIDS or something and didnt want to get any blood like that. But it should matter. what you are that was wrong

There's no reason why you can't donate your blood - being gay is not a reason. Unless you have an STD (not being judgmental by that!). They can't discriminate on those grounds otherwise - think you should take that one to the papers!
And yes, you can donate your organs.

Only their penis's.
Theres a lot of dangerous ignorant misinformation on here, anyone that sleeps around , gay ,straight, bi ... all have an increased risk of sexually transmitted deseases.
Those in stable relationships .. including gay men, have a low risk.
Ask the NHS helpline for up to date info on organ donation.

In the UK their are no restrictions on any anyone from donating their organs gay, straight, bi. If you were healthy prior to death with no STD's, there is no difference between you and any member of the general public from donating organs.

Of course gay men can donate blood, that is discrimination if you were told that you cannot. Your blood and organs isn't any different just because of your sexuality.
