Stick a hose down the hole, turn it on full blast, and wait around to chop the bugger in half with a shovel. very gross, but it's the only sure way that I know of. Sadly, it rarely works unless there aren't too many tunnels.

They sell mole, and gopher poison at most hardware/garden stores. Get a couple of different brands. They tend to be more effective when you "mix medications." Traps may or may not work.

You'll need a really narrow trowel, to dig through the dirt around the hole until you get to the tunnel. Wear gloves so the moles don't smell you, and pour in the right amount of poison, or insert the trap. Poison appliers are available, but I haven't had much luck with those. In fact, the poison really doesn't seem to do much but make the critters lazier in digging, so you can shovel them easier. Be sure to poison every hole every time a new one pops up, otherwise it's pretty much worthless. This way, at least it will cut down on working tunnels.

I've heard that some garden centers carry poisoned worms that you can put in the tunnel. I haven't tried them myself, though.

A neighbor claims he got rid of his by watching for new tunnels. Every time a new tunnel appeared, he used a pitchfork to spike all along the tunnel, and eventually he got rid of the moles.

Hopefully (find out) it doesn't hurt animals ...get one of those things you stick in the ground it emits a high pitch sound that keeps them away. Don't use chemicals.
