you want a printer with the highest dpi rating, dpi (dots per inch) and it all depends upon what your main use will be for the printer. laser printers are better quality but they cost more and so do the supplies.

Laser printers are really the best, but most people don't want to spend the money on laser printers and toner. Ink jet printers have gotten better over the years and do produce nice quality prints; however, you do have to wait for the ink to dry while a laser's toner is charged to the paper and is never "wet ink". I have an HP IIIP laser printer that I have had for over 12 years now still working -- I've never owned an inkjet printer that long.

Depends on what you mean by better. Laser printers have less moving parts, so in theory break down less. They also print much faster and more clearly. However, that comes at a cost. The printers themselves tend to be more expensive, and the ink is a lot more expensive. At my business, I wouldn't think of using an inkjet printer, but for home use, I only use inkjet.

is based on for which purpose you use printer each type have some pros and cons.
laser printer most use in offices because of the you can print more with the cartrige at least 2500+ ( based on type up to 5000 pages) and monthly print volume is start from 7000 page per month but you cant have this work load from the ink jet wicheach cartrige lat for approx. 350 pgage based on the volume but in photo prine ink jet is far ahead from laser and you can by a ink jet from 40$ but the cheapest black and white laser start from 100+ $ an color laser from 250+ $. so you have answer this questions before you choose your printer and based on your answer you can find your answer from above:
monthly amount of print ?
color or nlack and white?
quality is important or not?
how much you one to spend?

We just got a laser printer and we LOVE it!! It is so amazingly fast compared to the ink jet and the copies are fantastic. You do have to be careful about what kind of paper you use...no photo paper unless it specifies laser because it will melt, or so we were told by the sales person.

a laser printer has a more crisp look to it but it is more expensive than the ink jet and the toner is more expensive.....i would use a laser for work but for just home use an ink jet is quite good enough....

If you're printing a lot of text only then laser is the way to go. Much more practical. But for photo type quality go with ink jet.
I have one of each, and it works out well.

Obviously Laser Printer.
In Inkjet initial cost is less, ink cartridge problem is more and also running cost is higher.

Laser printer's output quality is better and running cost much below ink jet, almost no problem.

Laser is higher quality. I work at a company that makes printers and laser is definetly better. Although some of these inkjets are catching up.
