Most countries in Europe will NOT require you to have a Visa if you have a US passport. You can easily check on the web for each of the ocuntries you intend to visit. Each country will have a part of their official government website that will address this.

You need to apply for a passport. I think you need a Visa if it's an extended stay. I was in Austria for 4 months or so, one semester of school and I just needed my passport.

You will have to check with each country that you travel to, but your passport should be enough. They give you the "visa" when they stamp your passport. For the UK it's good for 6 months.

Your potential to holiday is determined through your passport, not your residency, so in case you in straightforward words have a Cuban passport you'll pick to coach for a Schengen visa, assuming you in straightforward words pick to visit Schengen international locations, and extra visas for non-Schengen international locations.

You will be stepping on another country's territory so common sense should tell you, yes. A passport is more likely.
