Yes, it's easy to say "anything by Charlie Chaplin", but really, I think only City Lights would be a worthy contender. That said, I would vote for anything by Buster Keaton.
:-)
The Crowd is a really good one, too.

I have a few that are my favorites but BY FAR Metropolis is the best, the visuals are amazing, and it's storyline is interesting as hell. Other ones I really like are Cabinate of Dr. Caligari, Diary of a Lost girl, and of course Nosferatu. They're hard to find, and I want to see many many more. Any I get my hands on I watch.

I wanted to add Carnivale of Souls to that, it's definatly one of my favorites as well!!
and to what that guy down there said.. People that are actually interested in silent films, films that weren't just mass produced and actually had some thought, watch more than Charlie Chaplin.. in fact I don't think I've watched much of his at all.

Contact starring Jodie Foster. It was all talk and no music. I wanted my two hours back. Honestly, you're asking the wrong people, dude. Who watches silent films anymore? And even if there are those who does, they'll probably say "anything by Charlie Chaplin" or something like that.
