I have heard that they can cause more cancer than they actually prevent. Is this true?

I've had a base-line mammogram, and when the time comes, I plan to go for a new reading, but I was just wondering if "the rumors are true" about them being dangerous. Thank you.

For most women and in general, no, mammograms are not dangerous. They are our best early detection devices for breast cancer. Please please please get your annual mammograms starting at age 40 (or sooner, if your doctor thinks it's wise.)

Having said that, some people (usually with a family history of breast cancer) have a gene that some doctors believe triggers cancer cells with the radiation used in mammography. This is extremely rare, and unless you have been explicitly told by a specialist that you fall into this category, you really have nothing to worry about when it comes to your mammogram.

without history of breast maximum cancers, i come across it ordinary that the scientific docs desire a base-line mammogram till now you're 40. you may desire to question this further till now intending. As for the radiation, the quantity is concerning comparable to getting x-rays for a broken bone; the prospect is minimum yet no longer non-existent. that's been pronounced that radiation can set off maximum cancers in a individual companies to it;even with the incontrovertible fact that, returned the prospect is small. i think of you may desire to pass to this internet site and carry out a little analyzing and initiate asking questions.
