Mari Wilson was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes
In a series on celebrities and their health, the BBC News website talks to UK singer Mari Wilson about her battle with Type 1 diabetes.
Mari, known in the early 80s for her beehive hairdo, had six hit singles in the UK, including, Just What I've Always Wanted and Cry Me A River.
She then started playing with a jazz quartet, at venues such as Ronnie Scott's and The Royal Festival Hall, and at jazz festivals alongside BB King and Ray Charles. She also sang in musicals, taking the lead role in Dusty the Musical.
Her latest album Dolled Up, which was released on 24 October, goes back to her original love of pop and soul.
