I don't understand why some people tend to be so negative about Police Officers. There are some lame movies and this famous story about donuts. Jeez, Police Officers are amazing people. I'm not saying all are, however, it doesn't apply to each and every one of them. I always see them driving by patrolling the area and I feel safe. It's not their fault people drive too fast without a seatbelt, or do drugs and participate in illegal acts.
As a 16-year-old I really appreciate what they do. And how they encourage youth to lead themselves to the path of righteousness. While we're sleeping in bed these people are out protecting their community. They too have a family to return to. So do Firefighters who run into burning buildings to save a life. And Paramedics who give the same care to their patients like doctors only difference is that they do it at scene alone with a crowd watching by or in a house with extra dim lights.

When I hear sirens, I think of them as a celebrity on a red carpet. Only difference is that celebrities get awards later on. When it’s a Firefighter, Police Officer or a Paramedic they usually get a person breathing their last few breaths and depends on saving their live; a burning building with a child still left inside or a drunk who just wouldn’t put down the knife he’s threatening people with. And they go with no guarantee to come back.
I usually walk up to them and ask for an autograph. When I look into their eyes, I see pride. Something else I see that I can't really describe, they've seen too much of; the pain. And it makes me want to hug them. They deserve much more respect and I wish people could see that.

When they (Police, Firefighters, Paramedics) reach the scene. The first thing you hear is "Where the hell have you been? What took you so long?" Never do they say "Thank-you for coming, if it wasn't for you guys..." Has it ever occurred to these people that they came with full lights and sirens. Fighting traffic. The cars don't even pull over, it could be their family member or friend dying for the love of (your choice).....!

Here's an analogy that I heard during some law enforcement training:
Police are like sheep dogs and the citizens are like the sheep of the flock. Bad guys are the wolves.
Now the sheep don't understand the sheep dog. He's not one of them and they really don't relate to what his life is like. The sheep thinks that the sheep dog and the wolf have a lot in common. They're afraid of the strength and power that the sheep dog and wolf have and generally cower when in the presence of either one.
But when the wolf is coming in for the kill, the sheep are always happy to see the sheep dog running in to stop him.
The moral of the story is that most people just don't comprehend what a police officer's life is like. They grab at whatever story or wive's-tale most perfectly fits their ideals and stick with that.

because police officers have been evil to me and other people
i know. They break the laws, they beat people and shoot people without cause, they violate probable cause rights, they harass people without a good reason...a storm trooper is a storm trooper.
if they protect and serve THE RICH then really all they are is the enforcers of the status quo.
I have met a few good cops but they are the rare exception. For the most part if you have integrity you don't make it through cop school.

You know why I have utter disdain for most police officers? Because the ones in the town where I live are the LAZIEST ones on earth! Let me elaborate: 1. My best friend was murdered in her home in 2001, they have yet to solve that. 2. I saw someone trying to break into my neighbor's home, so I called, and they told me not to worry about it. 3. Someone's car alarm was going off every hour for six hours straight, and when I called at 3am, they told me to call back if it goes off again. (HELLO. It's called NOISE ORDINANCE!!) 4. I was in a local convenience store not long ago and the owner was telling the cop about the several drive offs he's had since gas prices went crazy and that he wanted to prosecute. He was offering security camera footage, and the lazy SOB told him there was nothing he could do. WTF? 5. My car was hit years ago, and it was a hit and run, and when we went in to the police station to report new information we had (a potential lead in who hit me) the dispatcher HID from us and was waving someone else down to HIDE too.
Serve and protect, my *ss! They're lazy, overpaid METER MAIDS.

Do you want to ask a question and receive an answer, or do you want to present us with your rantings in an attempt to persuade or tick people off so they don't even bother.
Anyway, I read a quote years ago (why, before you were born grasshopper (I'll bet you don't even know the grasshopper reference)), that I have found to be generally true.
"Police officers are merely bullies who are too cowardly to become criminals." Next time you ask a question, a word of advice, don't go into the additional details so heavily.

Many people do not realize that police officers are just people, like you and me. They go to work, pay their bills, raise their children and hope the world is a safe place for them to grow up. Most cops are not interested in wasting their time hassling someone. If you are raising hell, harming yourself or some one else then you will have their attention. I have found that if you treat someone like a human being, they will behave like one.

Because, police officers arn't allowed to be police officers anymore. Departments are more worried abou image than actual police work, so they PR train officers instead of police train them. Then when it comes time to be a real live police officer....well...you get what you get........been there done that!

Why don't you just go give head to a few cops everyday instead of asking this question everyday. I'm sure they would appreciate that a lot more!
