Its probably just the condition the CD is in (scratched or stuff)

Honestly, it sounds like your CD drive is going bad. Does it do it always with certain CD's, and not at all with other CD's? Scratches and damage to CD's can also cause this, but in that case you'd see the same behavior with the same CD most, if not all, of the time.

One thing you can try is to get some canned air and blow it inside your CD drive when the door is open. If there is too much dust in there it can affect it's ability to read discs. It's a longshot though - most of the time it doesn't work.

If it's very random, and doesn't matter what CD you have, then you're probably going to need to buy a new CD drive to fix it.

It could be that the driver for the drives is corrupted. Try going to the device manager and choose the option to uninstall either or both of the drives. Then reboot, and Windows (I'm assuming you are running a pc), should read the drives as "new hardware" and reinstall the correct drivers for them. Good luck.

What are you trying to do with the Cd? Are you writing to it or are you listening to it? Whichever you are trying to do, you must select the drive where the Cd is at.

Download new drivers from the manufacturer's website. Uninstall the current ones, reboot, hit "cancel" when prompted with the "wizard", then install the new drivers. Try your cdrom now.
