not a lot else you can do really. If s/he has colic or reflux try medication (see a doctor to determine these)

There are many other tricks than the pacifier! Maybe the baby is ...hungry? Assuming you've tried a fresh diaper or singing and rocking, try distraction with something as simple as a shiny spoon. Try burping the baby to get rid of irritating gas bubbles. Go for a car ride. Baby may be too cold or too hot. Maybe there is a tag in her clothes poking her or even the diaper tapes. Maybe she just wants to hear herself cry (older babies do that). Maybe she's sore from being picked up too much. Try a nice mesage with baby cream. If all else fails, cry with her.

Hold her/him. Try carrying the baby close to you like when it was in the womb and just move around, the natural feel of it for the baby should help. Unless something else is wrong (ie wet diaper, hungry, hurt, sick, etc).
Some good info on helping a baby be calm comes from DR. William Sears' The Baby Book, or Attatchment Parenting (also by him)

Also, if it makes you feel any better, I have 4 children and none of them ever took the pacifier.

I'm sorry "Cliff" said that since he really doesn't know you. And he may or may not have cared for a child/baby to really know how it can feel 24/7.

Sometimes babies hurt in their stomachs and cry a lot. Sometimes it's colic, sometimes it's a formula that doesn't agree . Sometimes they just cry and who knows why. Mine use to cry more right before they would go to sleep.

If they don't stop after awhile, you might call your doctor's office. Some are use to being held and don't like it when you put them down.

It's not easy having full time care of a baby......time changes things and will get easier. Best wishes and hang in there.

If the baby is not hungry or in need of a diaper change, than try sticking the baby in a stroller and take a walk. That always seems to help my daughter when I can't get her quieted down. A bath might help too.

Look up the book "The Happiest Baby on the Block". It is an excellent book that teaches what to do with crying babies. This doctor is amazing.
I've read his books, watched this videos. He can get a crying to stop in about 10 seconds.

depending on the age the baby might have colic. This is gas in the stomach that the baby cant release. You can buy some drops at your local drug store. Go to the baby section it should be right by the teething medicine.

Maybe the diaper is dirty. Maybe the baby's hungry. Maybe the baby isn't feeling well. Maybe the baby's sleepy. Try to take care of some of these needs and see if that'll work.

Most importantly, get off of the computer and take care of that baby already.

DON"T leave him to cry try to comfort him. and BE CALM, i know is herd but the baby feels if you are stress out. Try walking around the house . wash his hands, anything that might distract him, maybe he just needs attention.

How old is the baby?

Try swaddling her, take her for a ride in the car, play soothing music or white noise (even static will work as white noise if played softly).
