It's not a matter of good/bad with the Texans. The draft was not going to make or break their opportunity of winning, the team most increased their chances to win when Gary Kubiak became the new coach. Bringing in the Broncos system was a fantastic move and quite frankly should have been done much earlier. I know most people are dissapointed that Reggie Bush is not wearing a Texans uniform, but the running game was hardly where the Texans were getting creamed. Our pass rushing numbers are laughable and every successful team requires a defensive leader and identity. The Texans did more than that when they got Mario Williams, he is by far the face of this franchise. Mario Williams is 6'7 295 lbs and runs a 40 yd dash in 4.7 seconds....some wide receivers can't even do that. He is a freak athlete and with his size not as much of an injury liability as Reggie Bush. Bush is good, he's quick, he's agile, but that has nothing to do with what this team was lacking. If you look at the Texans draft and the moves they made in the offseason, they might end up being a sleepr for a wild card in the AFC.

Mario Williams was a better choice. The Texans have a fairly decent runningback in Dominick Davis (I think that's his name... ?). What they need is defense. So picking the best d-lineman from the draft pool was a smart move.
Meanwhile, no runningback cannot succeed without a good offensive line. And quite frankly, the Texans don't have that yet. So even a runningback like Reggie Bush wouldn't be able to shine like he did while running behind USC's All-American o-line. So the Texans might as well stick with what they've got and run Dominick Davis for now. One of the reasons everybody wanted Reggie Bush to go first is due to the fact that the runningback position is much more exciting to watch that the defensive lineman position. He does, however, generate more publicity (meaning, more money for the franchise). But... the media will talk about the best QBs, RBs, and WRs all day long, but you'll never hear them blab for more than two seconds about the best d-linemen in the game. They're just as good as the "ball-handling" positions, but nobody thinks so because they never get the attention. So that makes it highly unfair to say that Reggie Bush or Vince Young is better than Mario Williams.
Speaking of Vince Young... well, he was great in college. VINCE YOUNG won the national championship, not the University of Texas. Nobody could stop him. But this is the NFL now, and the NFL has never been about a one-man show. Young still needs to improve his passing game. And will he be able to do that? Well, seeing as he is a lot like Michael Vick, Young will most likely turn out the same way. And we've seen how Michael Vick's passing ability has DRASTICALLY IMPROVED over the past few years. Not worth the risk for Young.
So, after analyzing all that... I would've picked Williams over both Bush and Young if I were the Texans. Watch it pay off for them over time.

I honestly thought getting Williams was a better choice. Trust me, I would not be complaining if they had taken Bush either. I've been a Texans season ticket holder since the team started playing in 2002. We have never had a decent pass rusher, and now we do with Williams. We have a good RB in Dominic Davis and the Texans also filled some holes on the offensive side of the ball by getting guys like Eric Moulds and Jeb Putzier. As exciting a player as Bush is, he is not an every down RB

They should of traded down with the Jets but If they could not pull that off then yes I do. Reggie Bush is awesome and my favorite player in the draft but come on he is a running back. Running backs have shorter careers and are a dime a dozen; Shaun Alexzander or Edgerian James could have been had for a second round pick via trade two years ago. QBs, DEs, and LTs are franchise positions. There was too many questions regarding all of the QBs so that left them with either Williams or Ferguson. They are both have outstanding talent but DEs can produce earlier then LTs so I think they made the right decision.

For those who say Mario Williams can't score points for the Texans, they're correct. But Houston's big problem was stopping other people, to the point that they gave up the most points in the league last year (431) and had the worst rushing defense in the league (143.9 ypg). The place they might have needed help more was in their secondary, as they were next-to-last in interceptions (7).
Their rushing offense was in the middle of the pack last year (113 ypg), but David Carr was picking himself up off the turf so often (68 sacks) it was unbelievable. The help they needed on offense was in the line, which they addressed later in the draft.
Time will tell if Williams will be the better pick.

THIS WAS CRAZY.
I know the Texans weren't hurting for running game, but they need to learn a thing or two about value for the buck.
One draft and one year won't fix a flailing team - this is a multi-year fix. Why didn't they take Bush with the first pick, and trade him afterwards for next year's draft picks? Or a defensive player in his prime and a draft pick? Interest in Bush was very high among many teams because of his status as a potential gamebreaker.
Have a look at San Diego - for Eli Manning, they managed to not only grab the 4th draft pick that year who happened to be a QB on their list, but a first and third round pick the NEXT year as well.

Given the choice of Williams vs. Bush, Williams was the much better choice. Houston doesn't need a running back and they also didn't need a holdout possibility with Bush.
However, the guy they should have drafted is D'Brickashaw Ferguson. O-line was definitely their biggest need. I would have traded down and taken Ferguson.

No way. The Texans definitely screwed up by not taking bush. Bush would help an offense that would have to keep up w/ the Colts to win the division.
