Check with your local laws enforcement by calling their non-emergency number. In some places, there are different laws as to what is exceptable by the county and what is okay by the city. Colors to stay away from are red, green, and blue due to the colors being the same color as emergency vehicles and stoplights.

Neon lights are LEGAL as long as they are not seen if properly installed it will only give the glow effect....but red in fact is illegal and cannot be used.

I see them at bars & pawn shops all the time so I guess they are legal.
