i don't think the whole "soul mate" deal is irrational. if a person had a soul mate, that would imply that they are compatible with one other person in the whole world. there are ober 6.5 billion people in the world, so the probability of finding that one other person is way, way out of reach. what peopel look for is just someone they feel comfortable with in all situations, so they are just hopeful to find someone they can really get along with.

I'm not sure I like the terminology "Soul mate"...I think it gets tossed around so much it has lost its meaning.

But I do think people were made to fit together in a specific way to complement each other so well that once you find that other person - Honest to God - Once in a Lifetime - To the bone - they are more than your other half, they provide a peace to your spirit you didn't know was aching.

I think the great tragedy of our time is loss of true intimacy between people. I think that’s why everyone is sick in their hearts. I think it is the seed that grows into the writhing twist of bitter burnt empathy that is never extended anymore. It's why there is so much evil in our world.

People have replaced intimacy will all sorts of other things. In couples that date emotional intimacy that should develop at its own natural pace, often gets cut off and rerouted by premature sexual intimacy. Then all of a sudden the whole relationship rests on the sex. So it becomes really important for every girl to act like a prostitute in her own marriage, and Men turn to porn instead of love after a rough day.

That’s why so few people believe in "soul mates". People pair up with high hopes. But they don't have the skills to identify a good partner, they don't have the communication training to work things out, and they don't have the self awareness to see the same pattern working over and over again. Sometimes even if they do, they are already so burnt and jaded they don't have faith in trying anymore.

But I believe in love. I believe we are made to love. Because we were loved first.

Good luck.

The idea of a soulmate could be very harmfull. A "soulmate" is one's idea of a perfect partner. However, this causes issues in most realtionships after the individual notices a flaw in their partner that does not meet that idea. Now since the partner dose not meet the "Soulmate requirements" he/she does not feel they have to be commited since their ideal soulmate has not yet been found. Even the best and longest lasting relationships require the ability to make changes in life and work out issues in a way that is fair to both (since not everyone can have it their way).

Well Ms. PrincessKissMe,

Soulmates do exist and unfortunately for me, I was too immature to hold on to her. I can't tell you the pain, but it felt like being impaled through the heart upon a sunbeam shining through the center of the earth with nothing to look upon but a moonless night further darkened by the cruel, cruel stars that refused to reflect my lost sun's light.
