8 is in the hundred thousand place, and there is no number that is in the hundredths place in the second example. It is a trick question.

123,456,789.000
1= hundred million place
2= ten million place
3= million place
4=hundred thousand place
5= ten thousand place
6 = thousand place
7 = hundred place
8= tens place
9 = ones place

tenths, hundredths, thousandths, etc... come in when there is a decimal, and they fall on the right side of the decimal.

1,000.123

1= tenth
2=hundredth
3 = thousandth
