I agree completely with what Jules Maletras said. Also, roles or masks are used as a means of personal growth. If you want to *become* courageous, the best way is usually to start *acting* courageous (even when you don't *feel* particularly courageous).
Same thing with being a good leader. Rarely is leadership an inborn quality. Much more often, people learn the skill by donning the role or the mask, going through a trial-and-error period to see what particular styles suit them best, and growing into the role with experience.
Sometimes you have to try out a role or a mask, gain confidence in it, and grow into it. And eventually it ceases to be a mere role. As such, it's a legitimate learning tool.

I'll ask you a few questions. What do you constitute as different? How would you define original? When you say they have a fake face and character, are you referring to how they act in public. Let me ask you this, if my character and real face allowed me to be grumpy and call you some derogatory term such as fat slob, how would you feel? I'd be hurting your feelings of course, but I'd also be myself. Would you want this person working for your company?
I doubt it. Thats why we put on these "fake faces" as you call them. To ensure civility and to keep society from breaking down.

Because society is suspicious and fearful of that which is unusual. People find it easier to conform and fit in than to do something others might not understand and hence look down on.

A lot of people are conformists, but then society doesn't really embrace that which is different. I feel if they did, more people would be who they really are, instead of what the world wants them to be.

I think your asking why people try to act like everyone else...Because it makes them feel more comfortable because they can't be labeld as werid (as in too different)
