Has anyone been to Osan AB or Kunsan AB in Korea?

my hubby and i got orders to Korea and are wondering what it is like there. He's TMO and my SP......Both AF....can i get some opinions from people who have either been there or have been stationed there...thanks

Yes, I was stationed at Kunsan AFB January 96 to January 97 as an SP myself.
The winters are very cold. Kunsan base is located on a pennisula with water on three sides. The cold air blows from the water.
Be prepared for demonstrators (S. Koreans). Yes, there are people there that don't like us.
And with all the crap going on with N. Korea right now, be ready to be on alert often. As an SP, no matter what post you're at, you will always have a Korean counter-part. They're all kids, but they're pretty cool.
The base is small and spaced out. There's nothing to really do on base except the Community Center.
As far as off base. Kunsan is about 10 minutes off base which you will take by bus. Definitely go in a group.
I remember as an SP, I would be on details going off base at curfew rounding up airmen.
Osan is really fun. It's about a five hour bus ride. The base is nice and just outside the base is the black market where you can buy lots of stuff.
However, Osan is very near the DMZ. If N.Korea decides to be stupid, Osan would be wiped out in about 2 minutes (stone throw away).
Kunsan would get wiped out in about 9 minutes if a missle was launched.

Keep this in mind. If the "balloon" goes up, you're getting attacked.

my husband was born there on the AF base... then went back after he joind the service... He liked it... I hope you guys dont have to go though.. that north Korea man is Just acting a fool... maybe you can take him out..
