For me I felt mostly normal that day. I remember I was at work and - all of a sudden- had this urge to go outside. ( It was wierd. I HAD to go.) This old lady was there and said that was some natural instinct ( Kinda like animals do when they go into labor- run away and hide and have their babies?) - I dont know. Anyways, I wasn't having contractions or anything. It was probably about 6 PM. All of a sudden, around 9 PM I was EXHAUSTED! I laid down and went right to sleep. ( And I'm sure you know how hard it is to fall into a good sleep when you're that far along.) Anyways- i was sleeping great- snoring and all. Sure enough at 1 AM woke up with TERRIBLE contractions. ( Guess they started when I was asleep.) I stayed at home and cleaned the house and did little things for 2 hours. ( I hate waiting around at the hospital.) My water finally broke and we got to the hospital just in time for my son to be here.

AUGH, me too! I'm 36 1/2 weeks. I can't take it anymore. We know from my first baby that I don't dialate and my doc said I am as tight as a drum, so unless my water breaks I have to stick this one out until my c-section on July 31st.
But the contractions, my God, they were just like the ones I had when they induced me before. Once they start again you immediately remember them. All I wanted to do was sit on the toilet. It was the most comfortable position. Second position was pacing, back and forth, just to keep myself moving through them. They wouldn't get better, but it kept me occupied, until I couldn't walk through them any more.
So this week, they started again. Yeah, the pain in the cervix, the pushing on the butt, like it's going to be pushed out, the tight back pains that are low and move like fingers around to your front, under the belly button. 4 bowel movments in one day!!!! For a woman who has spend the last 8 1/2 months constipated, that was like whoa!
But, just like you said, after 6-8 hours, getting as close as 4 minutes apart, they stopped. I really didn't mind too much because they hurt so bad and my doc won't give me a thing.
Maybe you can ask your doc to strip your membranes at your next visit. I've heard that can help.
Sometimes lots and lots of water will keep them at bay. If you are dehydrated, the muscles contract more. Also, my doc okayed this, but you might want to ask yours to be safe...I take two tylenol and two benedryl if I can fall asleep and the pain goes away, I know it's just practice labor.
I wish someone could come up with a way to tell my body I'm having a c-section and I don't need any practice! Good luck to you, I hope that you get your relief soon and have a very healthy and happy baby after all is said and done!

I felt the same way at 39 weeks and was so excited thinking that I was going into labor. IT SUCKS waiting and not knowing what is going on. Ended up that I needed to be induced because those symptoms never stayed around long enough for labor to take off and progress.
Same thing happened with my second baby. Hang in there. They say the kid can't stay in for ever but in your 9th month it already feels that way!

Hi I have a 7 week old girl and I had her at 38 weeks. That morning I woke up and started getting dull cramps in my belly. I thought maybe they were braxton hicks as I hadn't had any (Also didnt have a show or any other "clues"). I looked online to see what braxton hicks should feel like and my cramps became progressively worse. I called my husband to come home from work around 11am, called the hospital as by the time he got home (just before 12) these "cramps" were about 5 minutes apart. They told me to come in and after hooking me up to a machine to measure the contractions and baby's heart, they admitted me to the delivery room. At 1.30pm I was at 2cm, had an epidural just after 2pm, by 3pm my waters broke and I was at 5cm. Long story short, epidural wore off and had a second one inserted as blood was coming back up the tube of the first one so they couldn't just top it up. By 5pm the second epidural had worn off and the same thing happened with blood coming backup. By then it was too late to do a third epidural, so I had the gas (which makes you totally loopy btw!) and my little girl was born at exactly 6pm. So probably a little more info than you were after but to answer your question, YES it can just come on! Congratulations, and best wishes for the safe arrival of your little bundle!

With my first pregnancy I had the discomforts of being 39 weeks pregnant but nothing really that showed a sign it was going to happen soon other than being at the end. My water broke sometime during the early morning and contractions started about 45 minutes after I got up..about 15 minutes after that I was throwing up...when the time comes you'll know! Best of luck!

Having suffered from vestibular migraine for years. I can really appreciate when someone understands a sufferer's frustration, worry and despair. The Ultimate Vertigo Protocol is like having a real human guide you to a vertigo free life. As soon as I started to apply the method, I have noticed improvements. Now, 7 days later, it feels like living a miracle. I would highly recommend this book to I anyone with vertigo & dizziness

The day before my water broke I was at work and felt an enormous surge of nausea, dizziness and an exhaustion I have NEVER felt before. I went home and slept the rest of the day, I think I slept for almost 5 hours straight, its like my body was preparing me for the wake up call we got at 2am, my water broke. I was 38 weeks also. The answer isn't medically supported just experience, it was my first pregnancy too, just remember eveyone is different. Hope this helps even a little. Good luck!! Nothing beats motherhood!!

Those are Braxton Hicks contractions or in lamen's terms, practice contractions.
When you have contractions, you HAVE to track them. When they get closer and closer together, you close.
Soon, you'll be around 15 minutes apart. Really close. Then, all of the sudden, you'll be 5 minutes or under apart. Now, you've started. Track that so that the contractions are 5 minutes apart for an hour and that will be the definite to get to the hospital.

um I'd go to the doctor it sounds like you are in labor!! you may be having contractions your not feeling i only felt the last three before my son was born and nothing else and i had no drugs. If i hadnt got my mom to feel my belly for me for about 30 min i would never have known i was having them. I got her to feel my belly cause i lost my plug ( a thick slimy thing sometimes pinkish) and i just bearly go to the hospital in time i was there about 30 min when my son was born. your water may not have broken yet because it is thick (mine was) and it may have to be broken by the doc (all 3 of mine had to be) if you try to wait till your water breaks you might not get to the hospital in time. good luck and stay calm very very calm and it goes easyer.
