I am taking birth control for irregular periods. I have been taking them for about 2-3 years because If I didn't, I'd have like 2-3 a month. Do you know if I'll be ok if I stop taking them or will it do the same thing. I am married now and hate taking them.

Especially if you are otherwise in good health, there are alternatives to taking birth control pills indefinitely that are worth trying, many of which are herbs and dietary suggestions. One possibility is the herb Vitex, which is clinically used precisely to help regulate menses and also to help the body adapt after prolonged use of hormonal alteration (such as birth control pill). Please read more about this herb before trying it, also realizing that it needs a three month trial period (often full of flux) of initial use before menses stabilizes. You also need to ensure that you have good quality herbs. The book Women, Hormones, and the Menstrual Cycle by Ruth Trickey is an excellent text for more info on natural ways to address this. Dr Christines Northrups Womens Bodies, Womens Wisdom may have some useful info as well. Here is an online article on vitex: http://www.redmoonherbs.com/articles/vitex.php
If I were you, I would either boldly do my own research and experiment safely or visit a naturopath, an herbalist (http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/) or midwife in my area, or an MD that I trust and who supports my decision to get off medication. Many women do indeed discover that they can normalize their periods naturally.
Good Luck

It won't change you would still have irregular periods. Don't worry you are not alone. What you can do is take a low dosage pill that would make you get your period for 2-3 days with no pains.

I was on BC for about 5 years for irregular cycles. I went off of them and was okay for about 2 years, then became irregular again.

You will most likely still have irregular periods. There are some changes that happen over time, however. You might get lucky.

I dont think that you're going to be regular after. I believe they regulate your period while your taking them. They did to me and worked really good, but when I stopped taking them I went back to be irregular.

Well, anything can happen. If you don't want to become pregnant, perhaps switch to something like Implanon...?
