Good question

The Yankees have much more pride and history than any other team in the history of sports. My Grandfather lived in New York and rooted for the Yankees so that's why I personally like the Yankees. People like the Yankees players. The Italians and the Germans liked Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio. People liked Mantle cause he always had so much fun, and people started watching Babe Ruth after the Sox Scandal. Then the Yankees were big with Catfish's record contract. Reggie's record contract. The controversy in 1978, the constant firing and hiring of Billy Martin, and then Don Mattingly. Now people like the Yankees for Jeter and Rivera. The Yankees are just an entertaining team.

They have always been at the top or near it.....that coupled with the numbers of players that they have had that played a big part of baseball history....argue that the team is "bought" but it still continues to win.....look at the other teams that have tried it as well but with no success......there is just something about those pinstripes.....that "NY" on the cap and the thought that "the Mick"...."Jolting Joe"......the "Babe"...."Ironhorse Gehrig"...."the Ole Professor-Stengel"......"Reggie".....etc. etc. etc.......wore them that also makes it special......26 World Championships.........they are so special that two of my son's middle names are after Yankee's (Mantle and Martin)....my wife wouldn't let me name my daughter "Dimaggio"!!!!!.....the "pinstripes" just bring out the best in them and will always be special to my and a lot of more people........the are "winners" and not "pretenders".....

Well chances are they are a NY'er or were at some point and like anyone you root for your home team.
It sure helps that they have a pretty good record of getting the job done.
