Im shocked at the answers from the people who work in tanning salons....their crap!
And like putting a "towel on your face2 is going to help if your claustrophobic, i mean please!!!
Right, i personally prefer the stand up sunshowers (not the ones that spray you in fake tan)
These are much much cooler, as youe skin is not touching anything as with a lie down one.
The staff will give you a pair of goggles and if you want you can buy sachets or bottles of lotion to help accelerate the tan and keep your skin moisturised
You will either go into a room with the sun shower in it, or the sun showers will be in a row next to each other and they have a small cubicle attached to them for you to change.
either way your completely in privacy.
Take all your clothes off......after all your going on a sunbed - who likes tan lines?! With the stand up beds, you will have straps or bars above your head to hold onto, this is so your arms are above your head allowing the sides of your body to tan.
When the machine is switched on (there is usually a box on the wall that you put tokens in that the staff have given you, and it will start up automatically) when switched on you should make sure you have your goggles on. The room will go a loight blue colour - dont worry you can still see! Get inside the booth and close the door, with you being claustrophobic its a good idea to leave the door open slighty so you dont feel locked in.
There is usually a fan blowing down from the top, and a ring arond the bottom allowing a fan to blow up to keep you cool.
Where i go i can also hear the radio in the sun shower.
Irs pretty much the same with the lying down beds, except i find this more claustrophobic as you have less space to move in (you can move around in the stand up ones)
Again leave the door open a bit - i think you would find the lying oes a little like being shut in a coffin though so id recommend the stand up ones.
Anyways, top tips for you.....
Go to a well known salon that youve heard about, if your not sure ask your hairdresser/friends etc.
Go in at a quiet time (not weekends or lunch time) and ask the staff if you can see the beds or even better stand in one, just explain that your claustrophobic...they wont mind
Make sure your aware of where the emergency stop button is. This will be inside the bed or shower, and will switch the sunbed off, some will also alert staff that you may be in trouble.
Keep a towel/top etc near the door of the sunbed in case you do have to alert staff, if they come in you dont want to be stood there naked!
book your session as early in the morning as you can. It will be much cooler as its more likely you will be the first one on the bed/shower. i went after work once at 6pm and it had been used all day....i came out like a sweaty pig!!!
If the place you go to has lots of different beds, ask for a different one each time you go.....some will be nicer than others (bigger cooler newer etc) and some develop a tan quicker than others. If you go regularly you will soon find your faveourite!
Good luck!

Skin follows a biological timeline, by decades of life. During your 20s and 30s, the first wrinkles start to appear and skin becomes less resistant as elasticity declines and gravity begins to take hold. In your 40s and 50s, repetitive movements form the first permanent wrinkles as genetics, gravity and a decrease in collagen and elastin cause skin and muscle to sag. The scrubs stimulates your skin's timeline to regenerate more often and it will help you with the dark skin. The rays from the sun: UVA and UVB.... UVA is the one that destroys your elasticin and collagen (the same ones that when we grow older they start the diminish the production) and this is what makes the 90% of aging signs and the tanning slons have these rays. Also the UVB is the ray that burns you and contributes to skin cancer. What you need are products that help you get protected form both rays and always try to avoid the SPF over 30 because these will cause your skin to get irritated. I use these great products that help me get a nice tan, they also have great sun protectors for everyday use and water resistant, and they also have a tan enhancer that makes your tan last longer....you could find them in this site, at the left margin look for BefoRE Sun and you will find them .... https://secure.myarbonne.com/arbonne/arb... the best part is that they have ingredients for anti aging.... wonderful...and the hair protectn is just divine because it also works like a detangler..... and you could also use the "chap stick" they have to protect and hydrate your lips .......

Having worked at a tanning place for about 2 years, I know something about it. You go into the tanning room that the person at the front desk tells you to. In the room there is the bed, a chair, and usually a fan and table. You undress and wear whatever it is you want to wear in the bed. I usually wear a bikini. Then you put your lotion on if you brought any, adjust the radio and fans to how you want them, hit the ON button, and get into the bed and close the lid. Make sure you wear goggles! Then when your time is up, you get out! I hope this helps a little bit!

Going to the tanning both is easy but very addicting ! some people go in there bathing suit or just naked .........but it is a very tight place , you should ask them if they would just let you lay down in one with out turning it on to make sure youll be ok tanning in it ! I perfer to just lay out with friends on the beach or by the pool but if you dont tan easy or are just to busy then the tanning both might be the best answer . If you are too claustrophobic then maybe try a spray on tan MOST tanning place offer it now . Good Luck on the tan !

I got married at the start of March and wanted to be a little tanned so I decided to get sprayed. Let me explain.
Before you go make sure you are exfoliated and well moisturised. That way the spray gets a good layer of healthy skin and not dead cells which are uneven and will mean the tan lasts for less time.
You stand in something comparable to a large shower (where I went it was in a room so absolutely no claustrophobia - don't worry) you can go naked or wear disposable paper pants. You face one way and the machine sprays you for soemthing like 5 seconds. You kind of have to bend at the kness and swivel a little to be sure to get the spray around your curves. Then the machine tells you to turn around and sprays your back again for about 5 seconds.
The spray is a sugar cane solution, with I imagine some kind of fixing agent.
Then you have to wait to dry. This took about 20 minutes for me...very boring and strange as you are in the nude just waiting. Oh I forgot to mention that they give you a fetching shower cap to protect your hair, and gloves and feet bags as the skin in those areas is thicker. adds to your sense of feeling ridiculous...
After you are dry you can put on a robe and they come and rub a similar cream solution onto your hands and feet.
I went in old-ish clothes becasue a little rubs off on clothes at first - but it washes out no bother. You are not supposed to shower until 8 hours after, so no going to the gym either (sweating). The first day you may feel a bit orangey (but that was me - my friends said I looked great). Then as you shower a little comes off (rather like hair dye) and in total if you look after your skin and keep it well moisturised the tan lasts for about 9 days, gradually fading.
I felt great on my wedding day (I got sprayed 5 days before due to a public holiday, but I think 4 days would have been ideal) and was the only bride that came back from the honeymoon paler than when she went away!
It was a great way for a busy lady to get a great tan quickly and cheaply (18 euros) I didn't have to think about building up my tan over months or worrying about the dangers of UV booths or bikini strap marks. I would definitely recommend it.

Tanning booths are terrible for your skin; let alone the risk of skin cancer, but it makes you look older faster and it makes some people break out. My suggestion is to use the Mary Kay Sunless Tanning Lotion. Everyone who tries it loves it and it doesn't give you that orange streaky look. Just mix it with some moisturizer (equal parts for your body and then double moisturizer for your face) and it goes on really smoothly.

I go all the time. You will be in a small room by yourself (so you can get naked if you want), put on your lotion, put on your eye shields (very important-I don't like my face to get sun so I put a towel over my face because makeup usually looks better anyway), then you lay in the bed pull it down and turn it on. Then relax! If you put the towel over your head you won't be claustophobic. Sometimes I fall to sleep, but you will wake up when the bed turns off.

Do you mean one of the sunbeds that you stand up in? Don't go near them, they are one of the worst things you can do for your skin (aging and cancer causing). It is like standing up in an oven so if you are claustrophobic it will be horrible anyway.
Use some fake tan - get the quick acting stuff for nights out.
