If your water broke outside of the hospital:

Did the fluids stain anything? Like if you were in your car or home, did the fluids stain, did you clean it up then or did you have someone professional clean it? What do women do about it?

Stupid question, but I have always wondered about this. No one talks about it!

Gross I know, but it happens!

Ok. My doctor broke my water at the hospital when I was in labour...but I know that the amniotic fluid is normally clear when everything is progressing ok.
So no, the fluids shouldn't stain anything. Most people will sit on a towel or something when it breaks. It doesn't always gush, sometimes it's just a trickle. But, if it gets on something, I'd get it cleaned professionally....hope this helps!! :)

I think it is usually pretty clear, mine had to be broke by the dr all 3 times so i have never actually seen it. Don't clean it up if it breaks, get to the hospital. If you are really concerned about it or think it has stained you can get a professional to come in and steam your carpets.
I read when i was pregnant with my first that you should carry a jar of pickles with you and if your water breaks somewhere it shouldn't you can drop the jar and go "oh no my pickles...i crave them so much right now". LOL

My water broke at home while I was cooking Easter dinner and our floors are carpeted. This really wouldn't have been all that bad but I had machonium in my water so lots of stuff got stained a greenish color. I was smart though, I put a towel on the car seat so that didn't stain. To tell you the truth it is the grossest feeling I've ever felt. Ick ick ick.

Most often the fluid is clear and it should be. If it has any color or tint to it, you should have some concern because it could be that the baby has made a bowel movement. If it is indeed clear, no it shouldn't stain. My water broke in my bed and my grandmother went to my house and pulled my sheets and washed them and they didn't stain!

Mine only broke once out of three pregnancies prior to going to the hospital. It mostly got on my clothes, and its pretty clear. I am sure that you can clean it up with towels and a little carpet cleaner if it were to get on carpet. It isn't gallons or anything. The catch, though is that your body keeps making it and it keeps coming out, so even though I put on a pad, I still looked like I had wet my pants by the time I got to the maternity ward:) I did take a shower before heading to the hospital b/c it is kind of sticky. People seem to be really embarrassed by this, but this is about the least embarrassing thing that happens in childbirth.

With my first toddler, water broke and it changed into only a sparkling consistent leak for hours. With my very last toddler, there changed into an finished eruption and then a continuous leakage. This befell about 36 hours after dropping my mucus plug.

My bag of water tore and leaked before I have gone into labor. I can tell you it doesn't stain your clothes. It can be washed away with regular detergent. At least in my experience.

The 'water' is sterile clear liquid. I don't think you need to get it cleaned. But if you are paranoid and always look at that spot on the rug or on your bed, get it cleaned! I know i would!
