to succeed as salesman the best thing is not to loose temper since one who has courage to risk failures eventually succeed think how u learn skating same way u will learn this job but remeber edison has to try 2000 times for invention of bulb " AND when asked how he felt when he failed for 2000 times HE answered " I never failed the invention happened to be of 2001 steps" so u have to knock 2000 or more doors SO test ur patience AND have courage to risk the FAIilures even if too many u r going to SUCCEED. Just do your very best, watch others and treat the buyers as your would like to be treated.. Being a real good salesman is a gift from God not everyone can be one..3 things you need to be good in sales as well as life 1. KNOW YOUR PRODUCT INSIDE AND OUT. 2 WANT TO SUCCEED AT WHAT YOUR DOING.. 3. HAVE THE GIFT OF GAB AND DONT BE AFARAIT TO LIE ALITTLE.. First of all, find a company or product that you can honestly believe in and then half the battle is won.
Secondly, pay more attention to what your potential customer is saying than what you are saying. Learn to read between the lines.

Thirdly, learn about body language as this will tell you volumes about where the customer stands.

My understanding is if you work at selling (choice or forced) you are a salesman. When someone buys what you are selling, you are successful. Simple - any other answer is moot.

I beg to differ with ROB B - God does not hand out gifts of salesmanship or any such thing.

Be sure to put together deals that will be of benefit to both the customer and the company you work for.

Go for long term customer satisfaction so they'll keep coming back to you to buy again and again.

Be professional and not the stereotypical salesperson. Be honest and believe in what you're selling. If you can't do that I would look for another job.

You dont have to lie all the time, Just pay attention to the person and tell them what they want to hear even if it is not completely honest.
