I was told about Melaleuca products, but I don't know anything about them or any other products that may be better. I just don't want the harmful chemicals in my home any longer. If anyone has any feedback on which products to use/don't use I'd greatly appreciate it.

My grandmother and mother always used baking soda for an abrasive cleaner for things such as toilets and sinks and as a carpet freshener. White vinegar is good for preventing and eliminating mold and mildew, although the smell can leave a lot to be desired. My grandmother also used diluted bleach to wipe down all surfaces and eliminate germs. I try to stick to these tried and true cleaners to avoid unnecessary chemicals around my dogs or my husband.

You can clean most surfaces with combinations of vinegar, lemon juice, salt and baking soda. Lavender oil sanitizes and smells great. Homemade detergents and soaps work better than commercial ones if you're willing to learn how and put out the effort. We've been making our own cleaning products, toothpaste, and shampoos for years and would never go back to commercial products.

Simple Green - safe and effective and biodegradeable. You can dilute it a lot for glass, a little less for most other jobs, use full-strength for tough ones.
