I have heard from people that it is completely not allowed by the US gov't and yet it actually is available. Why the discrepancy?

The information is not forthcoming and most people don;t know where to go to learn about that.

It's not like the US promotes it.

Because it technically is true in some cases. While an American can have two citizenships, if a citizen of another country wants to become an American citizen through naturalization they are required to renounce their old citizenships as an act of faith. But if say, you were born in Canada but your parents were American then you could be a citizen of both countries.

It is legal. the US government doesn't make you end dual citizenship.

How come some citizens don't know this? because it isn't discussed often, it doesn't come up that often . One of my doctors is from Australia. She is fully legal in this country. Her kids have dual citizenship, but she didn't think to tell them. One found out in college at about age 20.

It's not that it's "not allowed", it's not recognized by the US gov't. Two different things. Many countries do recognize dual-citizenship, which can cause issues, if you are of military age for instance, and your other country of citizenship has compulsory military service.

BECAUSE USUALLY TO HAVE DUAL CITIZENSHIP YOU HAVE HAVE SOME SORT OF CONNECTION THE ON OTHER COUNTRY.
FOR INSTANT PEOPLE BORN IN MEXICO WHO ARE NATURALIZE CITIZEN CAN HAVE DUAL CITIZENSHIP CAUSE THEY WERE BORN IN MEXICO. IF YOU ARE NOT BORN IN ANOTHER COUNTRY YOU HAVE BE SPONSOR BY THAT OTHER COUNTRY IN SOME WAY.
