I am sure that Tesco`s know the employment law and act accordingly. If you or your daughter don`t like the hours change them. Tell her to have a word with the personal manager. Bare in mind her full shifts have to be covered so I wouldn`t ask if she can finish 1 hour early as it would be unreasonable of them to find someone to work for 1 hour. But you could ask if she can work 2 shifts don`t forget the less money she earns you may have to make up

Yes, if she is working less than 48 hours a week overall. She is old enough to work full time and doesn't do enough night hours to fall under the night shift rules.

She isn't a baby - I was doing something similar aged 17 while studying full time during the day.

I teach high school, and I know lots of kids that work past 11pm on school nights. Legal? I wish it wasn't, but it happens. I think most employers will be reasonable if asked to reschedule the hours though. Has your daughter tried to talk to the manager about this?

I believe it is legal, depending on the state. When I worked at Target and was under 18, they would only work me until 10pm.
