The U.S. is majority Anglo. African Americans, Asian, Latinos and others are in the minority. Because it takes a majority to elect a president and people most always vote for other people who look like them, they will vote for someone Anglo. This is true in every aspect of government. The minorities sitting in elected office have most probably been elected from minority districts. The more important question would be; why is it that the president is always a male if 50% of the U.S. is female? The answer to that is societal prejudice which may also be at play in always having an Anglo as president. It's called "priviledge" and the "good old boy" network that is very alive and well in U.S. culture. The good news is that this may be changing and I hope that we will soon be ready for a woman or a minority to be president of the U.S.

The majority votes for persons alike - so in New Orleans the mayor is black.

Plus the non-caucasians and their families of origin usually are not part of networks with really big influence and money, think about the amount of those studying at the top universities 20 years ago (or longer) to now be able to become presidents and so on.

Im not racist I would vote for a black or mexican president. I live in flint michigan and I am white. I am very ashamed of bush. I think he is doing a terrable job and anyone is better than him. I dont care if they was purple. If I thought they would do a good job I would vote for them. As far as I know I dont think there has ever been a black or mexican persont to run for president. I personaly would not vote for rice but I would vote for a black person. I think there are some good and some bad in all races. bush is a bad person and i believe there is a special place in hell just for him. I realy think if a black person man or woman ever ran for president they would win. only ignorant people are racist anymore. My kids go to daycare and they dont care about the other kids skin color they just start playing. adults should try to be more like that. God said he loves evryone not just white people. I think blacks and mexicans should go ahead and run for president if they want to. If I think they will do a good job I will vote for them.

Well, I think the rules state that one must be a U.S. citizen to be elected president. Secondly, I think it's up to the people to vote for what they want. Only U.S. citizens can vote. So even if our country has a diversity of people, the majority of voters are probably Caucasian. Even though there are also African American, Mexican American, and Asian American only those involved in voting will be heard. And usually that is what is represented in who is elected for President.

It is quite simple, the majority rules.

We don't vote directly for the president. The electorial college votes for the president. The canidate for president must win its party nomination. And white people make up the majority of the US population. Asian american only consists 1% of the US population. African-American only consists about 12% of the population. And hispanic-American consists about 11% of the population.

In the Southwest, lots of government posts are held by Hispanic-American because in some areas they are the majority.

In Hawaii, and California, some government posts are held by Asian-Americans.

As for African-Americans, there are lots of congressman and mayors.

Feel free to ask this question again after Condaleeza Rice wins the Presidency of the United States in 2008.

The simple answer is that the US voters have not yet elected one. When the turnout in an election is 50%, it is easy to see the impact the other 50% /could/ have if they didn't feel disenfranchised.

The claim that this is based on language-skills doesn't explain George Bush. His inability to speak proper English is legend.

The day will come within my lifetime, I am confident, when a member of a minority group is elected to the office.

I have no doubt that another race could run this country (especially better than the moron we have now) I think the bigger issue would be protecting the new president because it would really cause an uproar. So much hatred and racism run this country that a regular assassination attempt cant be ruled out.

Its a shame.

It's because not enough voters trust a black or mexican enough to give them that sort of power. Look at Affirmative Action and it's racial favoritism ramifications? Black people are already race oriented block voters, giving them the keys to power would be more racial favoritism and basic genocide for all other people.

We will have social upheaval, riots, hangings, killings, we may just as well live in Africa for God's sake!
